Thai vs deep tissue massage: which should you book?
Thai and deep tissue are our two most requested therapeutic massages in Business Bay. Both are excellent for stiffness and pain, but they feel very different on the table.
Technique
Deep tissue is done on a massage table with oil. The therapist uses thumbs, forearms and elbows to apply slow, deep pressure into specific muscles. Thai massage is traditionally done without oil, in loose clothing, and combines rhythmic acupressure with assisted stretching that moves your body through yoga-like positions.
How it feels
Deep tissue feels focused and intense on tight spots. Thai massage feels dynamic: some pressure, a lot of stretching, and a looser, more energised feeling afterwards.
Choose deep tissue if you
- Have specific knots in your shoulders or back
- Like strong, sustained pressure
- Want to relax lying still
Choose Thai if you
- Feel generally stiff and inflexible
- Sit for long hours and have tight hips
- Want to leave feeling energised rather than sleepy
Still not sure?
Book a 90 minute session and tell your therapist what you are feeling. At Plus Star Spa our therapists can combine Thai stretching with deep pressure work. Read more about Thai massage and deep tissue massage.
